Why do I need Cardiac Rehabilitation post my coronary angioplasty/bypass surgery?
Post any heart intervention, such as an angioplasty or cardiac surgery, cardiac rehabilitation is a must! Our monitored exercise sessions give you the confidence to exercise without any fear or anxiety. When you come for a rehab class, we take your blood pressure and heart rate and then connect you to an ECG monitor which enables us to continuously monitor your ECG during the exercise duration for any abnormalities. Also, the right exercise techniques are explained in the classes, with importance on warm-up and cool-down exercises along with good breathing techniques are also taught. A diet plan is also given to you which stresses on good heart-healthy living.
Thus an overall approach with lifestyle modifications are properly explained and you are guided towards a healthier life!
How will Pulmonary Rehabilitation help lung patients?
Most of the lung patients suffer from either breathlessness during any physical activity or a constant irritating cough throughout the day.
To reduce breathlessness, there are various Deep Breathing and Thoracic Expansion exercises that help these patients feel better and they are able to do a strenuous activity with ease. Breathing exercises combined with oxygen saturation (SpO2) monitored cardio exercises help lung patients cope better with increased physical activity.
Cough removal techniques which are mainly manual chest physiotherapy are extremely beneficial to lung patients. Nebulization, positioning and manual chest physiotherapy work well to help patients remove secretions to maintain a clear airway and breathe better.
All our rehab programs are customized for every patient, depending on various factors. Our cardiac rehab program is ideally for a month and during this phase, we ensure all our patients get confident enough to start exercising alone. But some patients need more assistance depending on various factors such as age, previous history, complicated surgery, and other lifestyle comorbidities. Some patients continue the rehab sessions with us for 3 months and some even like to follow up once a week or twice a month for monitoring purposes to ensure they are exercising safely.
Once our program is completed, all our patients continue to exercise as per our guidelines and suggestions. We customize the exercise programs for all our patients based on their lifestyle and workout facilities.
Also, we encourage all our patients to keep in touch with us regarding their exercise progress and love to hear about how well they all are doing.
No, we can assess and treat without referral by a doctor. However, most health insurers require a doctor's referral before they authorize cover of fees.
